(1) At its annual business meeting, the day after the release of the CTA, AAPHD passed a resolution pledging to work with the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD) to broaden awareness of the CTA and invite other organizations to get involved.
(2) In collaboration with ASTDD, immediately after the release of the written plan, AAPHD posted on its website links to the DHHS press release and the CTA web version, and provided web access to a video recording of the Surgeon General’s entire speech given to release the CTA. The availability of this information was communicated to members by a listserv and through the quarterly newsletter. Information about the release of the CTA was also included in a special issue of the Journal of Public Health Dentistry, which is disseminated not only to members, but also to dental and public health schools throughout the U.S.
(3) In the spring of 2003, AAPHD approved the skeleton of a strategic plan, including the goal of reviewing the CTA document to identify action steps for AAPHD to take for each of the 5 broad strategies of the CTA. Since then, 5 work groups have harnessed the contributions of two dozen members to develop short and long term activities to address actions identified in the CTA. At the annual meeting in May 2005, members will begin reporting on activities taking place around the CTA and the organizational meeting of the Oral Health Partnership will take place.
